Slims Rivers Bridge
Steel Girder
Yukon, 2008
Project Role:
» Erection Engineering and Demolition Engineering

Client: Surespan Construction Ltd.

Project Description:

Slims River Bridge is located at the east end of Kluane Lake, at Km 1702 of the Alaskan Highway.

The current bridge consists of two separate steel truss spans, each with a span of 200 ft and weighing approximately 360 ton. One truss was to be moved downstream to a temporary location, the other truss to be demolished. Since the bridge is part of the vital transportation corridor that is the Alaskan Highway, the highway could be closed for no more than 10 hours and the closure had to happen at night.

Infinity Engineering Group Ltd. engineered the move of the 200 ft. steel truss bridge approximately 160 ft. downstream. The bridge was moved to the temporary location to allow for a new bridge to be constructed at the existing roadway alignment.
