Double Decker Cable Stayed
Hong Kong, 1995
Project Role:
» Detailed Design & Construction Phase Services (URS)

Client: Kumagai Gumi

Project Description:

The structures, which included a hybrid concrete / steel cable-stayed bridge and a concrete box girder viaduct section, are part of the Lantau Fixed Crossing system that links the new Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok Island with Hong Kong Island. The structural system is a hybrid cable-stayed bridge with incrementally launched concrete box girder side spans and a composite steel box girder mainspan erected as a progressive cantilever.  The bridges are designed to carry mass transit rail facilities as well as auto traffic and emergency vehicles.

Dave Jeakle, Principal at Infinity participated in developing the structural design and construction plans for the winning design / build tender for the contractor team led by Kumagai Gumi.  Design responsibilities included superstructure diaphragms, foundations and towers, incorporating non-linear responses where appropriate. The services were provided during employment with URS.
