The Athabasca River Bridge is a 475 m long composite steel-plate girder bridge. The superstructure is a ten girder system with seven spans in the 60 – 80 m range. The total weight of the steel superstructure is 5100 tons.
Working for the Flatiron-Surespan team, Infinity is responsible for the detailed construction engineering of the steel superstructure designed to be erected through launching. All ten girders will be launched simultaneously, making this one of the widest and longest launches in Canada. Infinity conducted a 3D step by step staging analysis, checked the bridge components during the launch, designed the temporary works including the launch nose system and provided shop drawings. The role included addressing the review comments from the owner’s engineer and the contractor. Furthermore, Infinity represents the contractor in seeking approval from the owner for design changes during construction. The role also includes site support during the launch.
